Polyisocyanurate insulation results in extremely low heat loss and an energy fan operates for just pennies per day. The clear panels admit sunlight and an absorber suspended inside the collector captures.

We are building and installing 14 of these hot air collectors on our south wall of our 140 year old house in ontario canada. The design accommodates 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 construction. Here the term direct gain is used to describe the solar collector itself which receives it s heat by the sunlight which shines directly onto it. The same principles apply to this as the pop can solar collector and although you will spend more on materials you ll save a lot on labour and it looks neater.
